A developer has broken ground on what he’s calling the first master planned community in Plaquemines Parish.

David Waltemath today announced groundbreaking of The Parks of Plaquemines, located off Woodland Highway in Belle Chase. Boh Brothers Construction Co. has begun the 74-lot first phase with properties expected to be ready for delivery by summer, Waltemath said. Home construction will begin once the first phase of lots is complete.

Waltemath, developer of English Turn, heads the Parks of Plaquemines LLC partnership. He purchased property for the first phase, a 110-acre parcel fronting Woodland Highway, last year. Once complete, the development will encompass more than 400 acres. Waltemath said an upscale neighborhood of 750 homes will be developed over a projected 10-year period.

More than $2.75 million in lots have been pre-sold, Waltemath said, adding that it represents more than $12 million of new home construction. He estimates the economic impact of the development on Plaquemines Parish will be more than $300 million.
